Walnut (Juglans nigra) is a small to medium size tree that originated in North America. Walnut wood has sapwood that is creamy white and heartwood that varies from light brown to dark chocolate brown in color. Walnut generally has a straight grain but can have wavy to curly grain. Walnut wood has good strength and toughness, with average weight, density and bending characteristics. Walnut takes stains and polishes with ease to leave an exceptional finish. Walnut lumber uses include furniture, cabinets, flooring, millwork, paneling, doors and gun stocks.
